POPFLY
Woo yeah!! =D. After so long hiatus of blogging. Finally back? Ok no excuses, but I am kinda slacking around. Nevertheless...
After 3 weeks of hunting, our logistic, Bharath finally found a new room for our inet lessons. =D Great! I didn't mentioned this, but the old room at N502, was cleared out entirely of facilities and furniture. So, we were kinda "homeless". Still, big thanks to Bharath that we finally got a lab to work at!
Today, again, Bharath taught us Popfly stuff. How to create mashup and create games. Wonderful lesson taught, and it capture a lot of attention this class.
Waiting, perhaps will be able to retrieve a popfly application from few of our members' work. When we were creating games. Hahax, they have got lots of imagination. ^^!
Looking forward to next week! =D.
Another happening was, well, I had sent an email to many during holiday time: About a PHP course held by Ph.P Society. And we in total have 6 student attending the course, and with help from Ph.P Society to settle the course fees. We are still in debt though. Haha!
Yeah, and our holiday definitely isn't wasted. Fruitful indeed. Learned about how to program in PHP [though we haven't settled about doing application]. And the class had students from NUS, SP...AND MORE.
Any people interested about the course may just come to this site
http://www.php.org.sg/And the 6 of us "graduated"! =D. As the first batch of students. HAHA! Though, well, its only cert of attendance.
Erm somehow, not able to upload pics here. Probably next time!

Projects.
People! For those who attended this week's club meeting...
Well, we were starting on the Cake Blog, which actually isn't hard to do. But we spent quite some time over setting up eclipse, which was practically us some headaches, especially to those who retrieve the wrong file from my thumbdrive. =X
Anyway! If anybody needs the eclipse file, and/or the cakephp: get them here------
CakePhpPDT ProjectNext, you guys must master the concept of MVC. Model-View-Controller.
- A model is an object representing data or even activity, e.g. a database table or even some plant-floor production-machine process.
- A view is some form of visualization of the state of the model.
- A controller offers facilities to change the state of the model.
An analogy would be something like........purchasing food:
You made a request at the counter [counter represents the view]
The counter then proceeds your request to prepare what you want. [controller acting in at backend]
Like say 'mee goreng', so it will refer the their refrigerator to retrieve the noodle. [refrigerator represents the model]
Easy concept right? So you just take note, if you are going to purchase food, you don't go directly to your refrigerator take out those stuff right? You need a controller to do that action, which here our counter staff is acting as one.
And thats one of purpose why we use cakephp; for those who started working on Cake Blog, you would have realised that it is built on this architecture pattern.

I think, there are still quite some 'lost sheeps' during the meeting. But what I can ensure for next lesson is only: a much more structured lesson.
Because that we are going to follow up with a few projects in near future, basics: have to be strong.
Oh yeah, I managed to go through a bit of SQL statements with few of you...Anyway it is really helpful to anyone who wants to retrieve data from database blah and blah. Especially us too, since we are mainly focusing on building web applications using PHP, and theres no escaping SQL from it. ^^
Basically: SQL - Structured Query Language.
What it does: retrieve/manipulate data in database. The language syntax and usage is basically same even on different software: MySql, Oracle, MS Access +++++++
Basic Forms: CRUD
Create, Retrieve, Update, Delete
A good tutorial for beginners, as usual:
SQL W3Schools--
Anybody with any good ideas for projects that we can handle, feel free to contact me at my gmail: inlajuki@gmail.com
Otherwise, we will plan some borrrring projects. >D
Projects will range from: websites or widgets that we can add on to a webpage. Theme: anything, but! It will be best if it sticks to something educational. ^^!

2nd Seminar with PHP
Yup! This is our second seminar at Raffles City, somewhere in a building called Microsoft. Ok, pictures weren't well taken, not that I don't have a good camera, but that people kept moving!
This was after the seminar ^^

We were all gathering outside the room, comparing what school taught vs what we learnt here. THATS SUCH A BIG GAP. I mean, we don't really learn much in school as compared to the "big world" that was waiting us out there.
So we finally exited the MS building, and we arrived here. Erm..."lao ba sha". Directly translated: old market. Or...they called it the hawker centre. ^^
[personally I like that uncle who brought us the menu. xD!]
Anyway!! Theres the 4-person "gang".

The other four is down here. But! Taken at wrong angle, only 2 were in the photo. =X

Did I mentioned? Shurn treated us to satay!! =D. [no piccies, since we finished the satay before i thought of it.]

Yeah! Thats my dream car. xD! Not a toy, its a real thing in a don'tknowwhatbuilding. ^-^
About the seminar, this time they went through a....software: SilverLight. Which is pretty interesting. How to say...you gotta see the stuff it can do yourself:
FinancialsMemorabiliaCheck out that memorabilia, zoom in till...............the biggest pixel. According to the presenter, its 258pixel [issit??] but its real size is: 2-3gb. o_O!
You might thought its created by flash, but right click the webpage and you will see.
The second part of the seminar is about building plugins for wordpress. For that part, we will be waiting for the powerpoint that is supposedly be uploaded to PHP SG website. =X!
Till the next meeting... ^^!

Club -mini- bonding session.
Woops, yup, its kinda 'mini' meeting today. ^^ Hahax.
But yup, our inet club gathered at Block N, level 3 and had some fun together. As for those pictures, I will find some time, and upload them soon. And, we managed to get some videos. =D!
So, today isn't a "stare-at-computer" lesson. Nothing much to say until I get those pictures uploaded.
Another outing will be coming up soon! We hope all of the members will be able to participate, as it will aid us in our work in near future. [yeah, I said "work", do anticipate].
Yup, and, does anybody has any suggestion for the outing: as in what do you want to do? We hope, all of us will be able to enjoy the day out, so we need suggestion[s]. It will be during the school short term break. ^-^
Just a general tip for programming:You just cannot learn programming by reading. ^^.And definitely, exploring more than what you need to know!Lastly, my excuses for not being able to blog last week:
I was really busy. =X!

2nd Lesson-I
Well, its the second lesson of our Inet Club. People, how are you enjoying it??
This week, we had a philosophy lesson by Shurn. By the way, congratz him on his graduation ^^. Personally I quite like this phrase during his powerpoint: 20-80 rule. We don't reap what we sow. We reap more than what we sow. =D
BACK to main point, so guys? What did you learn from today's lesson?
I didn't have much time to run about to look at many others php programming...but lets summarise the basic:
To tell the browser you are using PHP language, we use this:
<?php --------------- ?>
And we write whatever php stuff we want to define in between the above codes. Righto?
The keyword "echo" prints the stuff you type that follows after it.
Also, remember to terminate each different instructions you want the computer to do by using semi-colon ";" Otherwise, well who knows what will happen?
Next, variables. Variables are used to store values, which then you can use them for manipulation of data and many more. To indicate a variable, you have to use include a dollar-sign in front of a variable name. eg: $varname
Variables are definitely useful and a must to know about.
Familiarise with its syntax.
Also, theres lot more stuff you can learn about
String functions that are available in PHP. Well, its fun to look through each and test it out when you have time... :D
Operators that can be used to execute on values. Pretty basic, this is a must to look through and learn them. ^^
Teach me operators!Chapters: "Else-if" and "Switch" are all logic codes, so I shan't be taking time to copy paste the whole thing here. Do learn how to write them.
I shall stop here on PHP for this post. There are some members here who has yet to complete those above I had listed out, while some of them proceeded further to "forms" already.
So before our next club meeting, do try to gather as much as you guys can do. Programming is a subject which requires lots of practicing. Reading doesn't help you to absorb, so you need to TYPE it out, UNDERSTAND and DIGEST.
Yesh, I do emphasize on that. ^.
We have 4 more weeks, before Shurn expects us to write out a blogger engine within 15mins. HA!
So lets work hard before the 6th week!!

Yeah, its hard to decorate a blog which talks about programming.
tis' the way
